More interesting items/ideas for a Bioshock Rapture MMORPG

Part 99

--- --- --- ---

That NEW Protector Smell :

Suchong "Protector Smell" (BS1) : "Big Daddy make a terrible stink, very smelly. Maybe something can be done, but Little Sisters seem to like odor. Now we have to find recruits... you become Big Daddy, it's a one-way street. But Ryan says, don't worry, recruits will be no problem. That Ryan -- he's a good guy."

Suchong seems to be talking about the successful (later than the failed Alphas) Protectors that Gil Alexander (BS2) supposedly created (using 'daddy' Pheromones as part of the general 'bonding' mechanism). But, But, wasn't that much later AFTER Suchong is dead ? This is getting confusing.

---

Humor

Also there (BaS) was the one-of bondings where the LS bribed a BD with ADAM (never reported because of Suchong's alleged immediate death ??? So it doesn't count.) Probably that method was NOT practical to systematically implement : Requiring a nearly dead Big Daddy, and an LS being coached :

"Go on , give the poor Big Daddy some of your red stuff, that's right cough some up ... Good Girl !!! Dont be afraid... Look, he's happy now. Ack !!! Red Light! Red Light Take Warning !!! Where is that @%^&* Electro-Bolt When you need it ... Arrrrrgggghhhh!!!!" ...)

So Suchong is working THEN (before Kashmir?) with THAT kind of BD unit ? But WERENT THOSE supposed to be created AFTER Suchong was portrayed as *dead* in Buried at Sea (and more vaguely in BS2) ??? The whole thing didn't seem intentional - Suchong to lackey at warehouse :

"Yes, bring up the damaged Maintenance Cyborg, place it in my clinic office ... Yes that right ... WHAT ? Forklift won't fit up stairs? Delivery charges supposed to be included in Deal ... *Slams Phone Down* ... Fricken Japanese less trouble ..."

--- ---

There was a sequence of removed Gil Alexander Diary texts ("False Fatherhood", "Lambs Gambit", etc ..) saying Sofia Lamb was the actual one who achieved the one-on-one bonding and organized the Little Sisters project. But why Sofia should be involved (or trusted by Ryan) is the illogical aspect, and conflicts with her 'rescuing' Eleanor ... All too much gibberish there ( ?? evidence some whole different plot sequence was abandoned -- Maybe it could be revitalized as some crazy project to use Spider Splicers as 'Hosts', them being mutated closer for the Slug's Symbiontsy. Imagine THEM wearing those dresses ... ).

---

Gil (BS2) : "... It is a symbiotic relationship, enforced by the girl's pheromone signature." - small issue was : How does a Big Daddy smell things ? ... Suchong and Tenenbaum : "REVOLTING !!!" (a joke out of THOSE TWO --- hahahahha). Anyway, using their sense of smell through their sealed suits?? The BD might have a bit of an operational issue there with THATt - Maybe if they had Brutes doing the Protecting ??? (apparently this is Gil earlier trying to find a 'bonding' solution at the same time Suchong is ...)

-

BS2 contradicted BS1 (killing Suchong early allegedly before a successful Protector system worked - Gil mourns Suchong's being dead when bonding is finally achieved) and BaS contradicts both (now killing Suchong explicitly BEFORE there even is a reason/need for Protectors to exist).

The truth is : You sometimes have to be more careful when claiming something is 'Canon'. More than a few 'later' declarations in sequels out there are simply inconsistent with what previously WAS SHOWN (which IS THE REAL "Canon" - which you would think would take precedence ) : ( http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RetCon )

.

---

The Suchong's Death Conundrum will take ALOT of untangling and revisions (and recreating of proper circumstancing) to clean up. (BaS can be written off as transdimensional BS - Elizabeth's fever dream). The BS1 and BS2 conflict is more Canon-centric. BS1 has him (Suchong) obviously working with operational post-Alpha Big Daddies, and doing alot of development with upgrades and new production. BS1 also hints Suchong was killed while testing LS-BD Protector Bonding - but THAT could be repaired with some further story improvement (and nothing says the body in Suchong's Free Clinic can't be some assistant getting killed, while Suchong made his escape). Gil's comments can be mutated, or a number of the 'Removed' ones (if they fit) could be restored.

--- --- ---

MMORPG Sticking to the Rapture Canon (BaS Columbia Contamination *IGNORED*) :

The MMORPG will pick and carefully choose what is consistently Canon (and what might be mere rumor, or the fever dreams of hopped-up Splicers and Ditzy Femme Fatales).

Don't want people saying "Where the F^&* did THAT come from ???", and "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooo!!"

Guidelines controlling Player Asset Creations (and Vetting Process adhering to those guidelines)

Plenty of 40s/50s era details to add (and reference) without every fanboi adding yet another repetitive weapon/Plasmid/Splicer variant (same crap, just more powerful/recombined and usually anachronistic).

Plenty of vague storylines to flesh out (many maybe frequently keeping to the 'short and vague' style, as most Players probably don't want to be subjected to complete life stories).

--- --- ---

BAD ENDING DEBACLE :

We don't really know what happens after the brief scene at the end of the BS1 'Bad Ending' :

Nothing says much happened beyond alot of Splicers were probably shot by US Marines from the sub, or they just shut the Submarine's hatches and submerged, and now the US Government knows where Rapture is. And/or Jack dies of a Childhood Disease that he never had any immunity to (and they DO usually hit adults much harder than children).

OR, because of insanity -- with all that awful amount of ADAM Jack ingested in such a short time, he went blitheringly insane and tried to eat the Lighthouse.

Whatever... (now the BaS BS - and the 'good' ending supposed to now be the only one ?) Sally was supposed to be seen saved by Elizabeth in a 'dream'/'vision' -- (??) Is that the same Elizabeth who just had been in a coma, or had half a Lobotomy ?? And has someone talking to her in her head ??? Who says BaS Elizabeth hasn't been snorting something from Le Marquis D'Epoque while we weren't looking ?? The "Bad Ending" IS Canon TOO (one of the two possibilities), and nothing Levine or others subsequently say can change that.

--- --- ---

Mutli-dimensional Inter-twisted Parallel Universes (M.I.P.U. ?) is NOT a great mechanism for a solid Plot. The Schrödinger's Cat Experiment :

  • First, if you open a box full of poison gas - then YOU might also be dead.
  • Second, if there are no air holes you wait long enough without opening the box - the cat will be dead, period.
  • Third, if there ARE airholes and the cat is dead - you will know it by the smell without having to open the box.

Anyone else have the idea that Schrödinger maybe didn't like cats? Lets redefine the experiment and put Schrödinger in the box instead ...

--- ---

This Nebulous Quantumz story pattern might be reflected with an example of The Burial at Sea Universe containing Three possible Elizabeths (Outcomes) : "Elizabeth in the Box" :

Except that Elizabeth-State-2 knows about Elizabeth-State-1 having happened, which is NOT part of the (real theoretical) Quantumz mechanism -- its called ENTANGLEMENT, and puts the Kabosh on the whole thing...). There is also a Elizabeth-0 that was in Columbia (several of them ?). Unfortunately people are NOT good candidates for exhibiting Quantum Properties (which is the realm of the really teenie tiny... usually frozen near 0 Degrees Kelvin == -459 degrees Fahrenheit !!!). As humans are subject to infinite Entanglements (being affected by their complex environment), they cannot really be isolated from outside effects like Quantum Objects MUST be.

Maybe all this whacky stuff could happen -- *IF* Columbia fell into a Black Hole and the infintesimal instant before its universe-offending lunacy was snuffed out ...

--- --- ---

Ryan Being Misunderstood (Intentionally "Twisted into the Fall Guy") :

Many people left in Rapture possibly never 'turned' on Ryan, as he was most likely the only one keeping them alive. We are largely shown comments by malcontents and outright traitors -- traitors to not just Ryan, but Rapture itself. There would be thousands of other citizen survivors we conveniently never heard from or saw.

The real madness (or as I put it dim-witted plot contrivance) was having Ryan kill himself (by Ryan ordering Jack to kill him) when at that point Ryan had almost won completely against Atlas/Fontaine, and would have a chance to restore HIS City. The Game Writers completely missed a truly Epic 'twist' : Where what we saw Ryan do could actually have been Ryan Faking his own Death, much like Fontaine had done. But sadly NO, they missed that opportunity which could have left the rest of the plot much the same (blast/kill/boom/kill/kill mutated Fontaine, help cute Lil Sisters, etc....), and SPRING IT at the very end that *Ryan Lived*...

(It so easily could have even been one of the animatronic Ryan dummies from Ryan Amusemenst that delusional Jack thought he killed - if Ryan really didn't trust the Vita Chambers (like how were they exactly actually tested ??? ... when ONLY set for Ryan's genetic pattern ????????????????????)-- Ryan could have manipulated Jack all kinds of ways, once he understood (as seen Ryan had pieced together in that WYK Room) how Jack was being controlled.

---

Ryan's philosophy was about letting people decide for themselves and get the benefits or penalties resulting from those decisions. Let the people of Rapture use the ADAM products if they wanted (they weren't obviously seen as harmful at first, and it is most likely Fontaine purposefully had his minions splice up into virtual monsters (look at the ads for the consumer Plasmids and Tonics -- the ones Fontaine and Atlas had their minions employ far exceeded what those were).

The Pheromone thing was Ryan neutralizing Atlas's Splicers, to stop them from tearing up his city, murdering people in the streets and wrecking the economy (all the stuff Rapture's Citizens needed to survive by that point). And the real effects of Pheromones can hardly be called 'mind control'.

They (the Game Authors) never really exposed what would have been Ryan's plan to rebuild/recover the City, and find a Cure for those maimed by ADAM (plans he surely must have had before Jack arrived). Atlas had pretty much been defeated by the time we come blundering thru as Jack, and unknowingly (or are programmed to) assist Fontaine (either way - there's no choice really there). It all simply made sure Ryan had no opportunity to fix Rapture.

--- --- ---

Game Company's Infinite Sales Job : The Problem - They Couldn't Deliver What They Showed :

Awards won at one of the Game Industry Shows for the game Trailers ... Except much of the content/activities shown in them were NEVER delivered in the game (canned 'demo' sequences can be run on very powerful rendering machines with lots of the game mechanics turned off or non-existent).

Perhaps they were planning on attempting such things (OR they knew EXACTLY what they were doing - and THAT IS called "Bait and Switch" a kind of Fraud ...) Likely, they simply "Bit off" more than they could Chew ? (and choked on it apparently.) Console Limitations, PC Limitations, Time and Skill Limitations, Management Limitations ($100-$200 million should have been enough money ? No?)

The Game's theme seemed to change in major ways at least twice. Maybe they spent too much time making Trailers and doing Interviews, rather than having the effort spent actually working on the Game ?

Truth is : What the Game Trailers showed was a far better game than what was delivered. The delivered gameplay was inferior to the two previous games, and the story was scatalogical.

The Company was shut down after pumping out the contract-required DLC. Was there nowhere to go with what HAD been a successful Franchise? OR simply it all had already taken the wrong turn down a dead end path ?

--- --- ---

Road to Rapture :

Hope and Crosby's next 'Road picture' (1949), which got a sudden name change. ((This an MMORPG story))

Having the name 'Rapture' bandied about via a popular movie might have been problematic

"I think we made a wrong turn at Zanzibar ..."

Strange Drill marks on the Studio Executive's door, and a fish head in his bed ???

--- --- ---

That Drill  :

As for carving up rocks, there would be big machines for doing that (of course by BS1 times most of the large-scale construction had ceased). Manual bulk 'drilling', when people had been 'blasting' with explosives for over a hundred years ? A shovel in that hand would have been more logical there (its called "mucking out" the result of the explosive-broken rock).

Simply put, it is COMPLETELY the wrong shape (probably the worst shape - perfect to get wedged/stuck in a hole being drilled in rock.) A simple look at REAL drill bits [Pix] will show you what it REALLY should look like.

There would be lots of scraping (cleaning) jobs to which that 'drill' mechanism WOULD be better suited. The shape appears better for working soft stuff like sewage plugging pipe outlets (ick - infectious diseases inflicted with something used to work sewage ...). Also Scraping sea life out of working surfaces ...

Maybe it might be good for shredding flesh (as a 'Protector'), but we saw the same thing on the Maintenance Cyborgs doing their work. (Interchangeable Tool being mentioned somewhere might have alleviated this whole conundrum.)

(( I'll keep discussing that 'Fired Grappling Hook' Drill (BaS) function for some derisive ridicule elsewhere. ))

YamHand [[1]] The visual aspect from an early mutant concept that must've struck a cord, and eventually turned into the 'iconic' Big Daddy with 'drill' arm. ((and then regurgitated through later attempts of things like Firemen and Big Bird (Song Bird) in Infinite BS). ))

--- --- ---

Soils for Raptures Farms :

As for soils, their nutrients commonly need to be replenished, as the plants absorb them and the end-product goes out the city's sewers (recycling potential there -- by Sinclair no doubt). Nitrate fertilizers can be chemically manufactured (Langfords Agricultural School would have information about required Trace Elements...).

A balance of chemicals... Alot of the farming in Rapture would be done Hydroponicly, but with Rapture falling back to less complicated methods, that would be supplemented with good ole dirt.

--- --- ---

Fiery Brute Splicers were Originally :

Neck Massage Therapists - "Ohh, you got lotsa tension there in yo neck - lemme just fix that fo yah"

--- --- ---

Humor

Farm Wars :

In a galaxy not so far-far away : Food was Life, and Rapture's remaining population needed food to live. The Farms which grew food were continually fought over. The Insideous Lamb wanted all ...

The Millenium (brand) Wheelbarrow (it could do the garden run in less than 3 bushels of parsnips)

'Hookies' brand Freight Hooks (guaranteed non-magnetic and non-slip cat-fur handle)

"Help Us Julie Langford, You are Our Only Hope" ... (recording found in a Flybot)

Light Chainsaws were not just for cutting Zombie's heads off -- The Lumber Industry use needs Force...

Harvester attachments for Flybots - some manufactured by the Droidic Agricultural Implement Company (Mr Droidic was a mechanical genius and even got an award for innovation at one of Rapture's Technical Fairs ...)

"The True Force is with the Free" - Andrew Ryan (Ryan had NO breathing problems)

Yes, Stupid derivative Star Wars references, but let me know when (if) you can do better ....

Darth Farmhand is really Little Sally's real father... (didn't see THAT one comin, did you ??)

--- --- ---

Saving Private Splicer :

Saving Splicers - but what if they don't want to be saved ?

Being violently insane is one thing, but clever intelligent resistance can be more formidable (and figure - the clumsy and stupid ones are probably NOT the ones that survived so long...). ((( My problem is how to program such intelligence into NPCs...)

Why should they "Go with you, and everything will be better, or 'all right'" ... ? (They've heard that one before - from Atlas, from Lamb, from that loon Sander Cohen, from Big Sister Prime ....)

Rumors about the 'normals' eating hotdogs made from ground up Splicers... (that really didn't help)

If they are "cured", then that means that they will again have to "Get a Job" ?

Children whose formative years were mostly BEING Splicers (or surviving them) - know no other life. Since ADAM became scarcer, many of the younger ones may only marginally be 'Splicers', and it may be more behavior (environment) than anything else.

--- --- ---

Beauty Marks :

For a short time at the start of the ADAM craze, when only affluent people could indulge to excess, the external 'marks' which were one of the 'Splicing' side-effects were seen as 'trendy'. A style of applying makeup to reproduce the 'marks' became a fad for some of the city's well off dissipaters (when alot of other Citizens said "WTF?".)

Edwardian Dress became the rage, along with heinous/hideous facial deformities perpetrated with pounds of makeup - Rapture's Decadent Age came just before its 'Fall'. ((Now THATS Epic story detail.))

--- --- ---

Rapture Bank Run/Crash - WHICH ONE ? :

Posit an Earlier Economic Crash (with a "Bank Run" ...) when Primary City Construction ceased, the City was isolated (1952 ?), the Atlantic Express shut down/bankrupted, "Hooverville" at 'Paupers Drop' with destitute unemployed people, Sinclair opportunistically building cheaper housing ... Something like this HAD to have happened EARLY(er) (and then be recovered from - by what we are shown/hear by 1958).

Contrast that to the events which happened starting with the Kashmir Incident :

'McDonagh (Audio Diary) 'Fontaines_Legacy' : "Strikes me that Fontaine wasn't overly inconvenienced by his own demise. On New Year's Eve, his wretched Splicers came streaming out of the poor houses and stormed the proverbial barricades! The dead rot in the streets, and Johnny and Janey Citizen are lined up round the block for Plasmids... anything to help fend off the rabble."

Hardly sounds like an environment where a 'Bank Run' has much relevancy any more. (Note - 'poor houses', but then, mooching is always easier to some than looking for a job. Note potential effects of ADAM debilitation.)

-

"Evil" Sinclair's Hotel was built when ? - If money has little/no value (Civil War) then how exactly does Sinclair profit? (Remember ADAM became the currency during the Civil War...) And he is supposed to build "The Sinclair Deluxe" DURING that Civil War ???? So that situation would be really from an EARLIER economic distress, to cause that low income housing opportunity/redevelopment - hardly something done DURING the Civil War's chaos/disruptions.

Basic Economics - A 'Run on a Bank' does NOT devalue money - there just isn't enough of it for common transactions, which stop/slowsdown the economy, causing bankruptcies IF business conventions continue to be enforced (those who expected payments on mortgages/loans start to seize 'security', or the breaking of contracts, which cascades indirectly into much of the economy). Confidence in the system, where (re)payments are assumed to be honored or people just being normally paid, is what is lost. That is WHEN Normal rules and expectations still apply.

- 1929 was a huge margin-based credit bubble which *CRASHED* because of the Stock Market (a huge mass of investment loans there were unsecured). People/Banks might be stupid enough to invest that way in Rapture again, but it is more "a tempest in a teapot" in a market place as small as Rapture (20K-40K people).

The 1959 "Bank Run" is more likely one made by fearful people grabbing money to go buy Plasmids/Weapons to defend themselves (and then the banks quickly not having enough CASH to cover all the withdrawls - which when people hear of it, THEY rush to get their money out too).

-

It looks like Prentis Mill killed himself after that previous (1952 ?) economic readjustment - sometime after his Railroad went bankrupt (replaced supposedly by a comprehensive Bathyspheres/Metro Transit system - METRO taking over transit in Rapture -- AGAIN not really likely to happen during the Civil War, and with all the Bathyspheres supposedly "locked Down"). SO THAT particular "Rapture Bank Crash", mentioned by Mill, was NOT after the Kashmir Incident, and whatever 'Bank Run' happened to take place then.

AND Prentis Mill would likely have (not being an imbicile) had much of his CASH loans secured in exchange for loaning it (By Ryan at minimum) so would likely STILL have been a very rich man (so maybe it was more the failure of his Railroad system that depressed him, and drove him to suicide). At minimum he would, at the end, hold ownership of the banks he had loaned to, and all the mortgages they had held. (This is not an equivalent of the cliche of some rich dude losing everything betting on the Stock Market, and then jumping out a skyscraper window.)

-

The "bombs exploding", talked about by Grace (causing "people all pulling on the same dollar"), sounds like the Kashmir Massacre (and whereever else Atlas had his terrorists attacked). Hardly time for a "Hooverville" ("City Looking down their noses at us...") to grow up, when people were being massacred in the Streets by Atlas's thugs. With order breaking down, people would just stay whereever they already lived, and 'rents' could hardly be collected or people evicted. AGAIN that particular situation mentioned in Grace's rantings would be DURING some EARLIER economic event generating large numbers of unemployed 'poor' people.

AT Kashmir Massacre time, any 'Bank Run' becomes a minor thing. With Atlas's terrorists, in whole sections of the City, shooting-up/slicing-up citizens, murdering them wholesale in the streets, destroying infrastructure, AND with Citizens then fighting Atlas's followers -- a war --- THAT is what disrupted the entire economy. How do you run a business when all your customers/employees are afraid to even leave their houses/apartments ? And basic neccessities are the only things selling ?) Commerce comes largely to a halt. There is a cessation of wages/salaries - and it is widespread. Banks are completely out of CASH to cover any withdrawls. SO this later "Bank Run" was HARDLY the deciding factor in Rapture's later (final ?) economic collapse.

The game's plot is very Vague about how fast this all happened -- either quickly, OR taking more time (time for the money panic to settle down or to become irrelevant). One Big Economic mess, and EVERYBODY is poor, and THEY ALL don't care about some 'Have-Nots "protesting"'. The Majority of Citizens are more concerned with their own Safety and Survival. Ryan may not have declared Martial Law quickly (did he even have Security Forces big enough/equipped to do much ?), and HE saw The Citizens as the Proper agency to eradicate the terrorists/anarchists.

Power hungry Fontaine/Atlas using ADAM mutants to cause chaos. A climate of destruction and murder is the deciding factor in Rapture's decline, and Ryan's death sealed it. SO NOT not some 'Bank Run', which was a sideeffect, instead of a 'cause'.

--- --- ---

BaS Psychodrama :

Sally is hiding in the Vent and Elizabeth 'to save her' turns up the heat setting to 'BROIL" :

Hmmm, maybe a unconscious wish to kill Sally by Elizabeth ? If she was dead then all Elizabeth's nightmares would end ? Psychodrama also shows Elizabeth intentionally trying to get herself killed (so the searing pain in her head will finally stop ???)

Couldn't Elizabeth have crawled INTO the Vent after Sally, or was there that everpresent compulsion to bite the child's pinky off that had gotten Elizabeth into trouble so many times before ?

Can't blame Elizabeth. She had a rather warped childhood, and has gone through too many Tears to still be what we might consider 'sane'. With her schizophrenia, it might have been more interesting to have 'evil' Comstock alternate with 'helpful' Booker, when she talks to her imaginary companion. (Now that's REAL imaginative storytelling, which WOULD NOT interfere with the shooting part of the game.)

--- --- ---

Too much Perfectly-Working Stuff in Rapture :

We needed to see more broken security machines in BS1, and even more in BS2 (understood that there were game production limitations on 'kludge' machine variations in-game -- but the MMORPG won't have that problem). The time of the MMORPG is a few years after BS2.

Malfunctioning objects can do alot of interesting things, and can remove the Player's assurance/confidence that they know what will happen in their next step (generating even more of a state of apprehension, which you kind of lost halfway through the Solo games - once you figured it all out. Example - some Security Scanner which has a periodic 'glitch', and suddenly switches direction on the normal scanning pattern and spots you when you are trying to approach it for hacking.)

In BS1/BS2, it would have better showed the state of the City - more hazards to keep the Player's attention. Many sets of optional/random factors/specifics that change each playthrough would also increase the game's Replay value (something the MMORPG takes to extremes with the Auto-Generation). That would be a good idea to help increase the total game playtime (Note - Solo Games which today continue to shrink their Play-thru Hours) - you have to watch your step more AND be ready for sudden changes/something different to react or to avoid them.

Vending machines should be optionally broken (and damaged if combat happens near them - like the Health Stations did), or be empty, or have more varying inventory (or it takes your money and jams) or be hacked in interesting ways. Have that odd-chance they catastrophically jam/shutdown/short-circuit/trigger-alarms, and you lose not just your money. This could include being able to choose to break into them (but possibly draw attention from Splicers or face the inevitable boobytraps). The MMORPG would have that kind of thing - as NOTHING there is impervious to persistant toil/efforts (though you may just have scrap and rubbish left).

You can have Odd or Amusing things that happen because of the variety of reactions/interactions for most game props (and various cascading effects that causes further odd reactions with additional props -- ie spreading fires like in Far Cry 3). (I remember the 'fumble' tables and open-ended damage potential of D&D games of the past).

Obvious would be to have more bits of terrain that collapse or fall on you, doors that jam, etc...

Lots of potential for Player Asset Creators to be imaginitive.

--- --- ---

TV Technology (Rapture Ahead of the Surface) :

With the obvious interior radio and TV generation and transmission capabilities shown to exist in pre-Civil War Rapture, you would probably have roving reporters for media companies (Newspapers watch out !!!)

As I've mentioned elsewhere, radio waves suck at going through water (and all the solid concrete/metal walls wouldn't help either), so some kind of cable transmission and repeater station system would have to be in place (Yes, all those TVs were 'Cable' ). The idea wasn't original -- cable TV got its start in the US at the end of the 40s, and radio had used wires to get their signal through to the broadcast stations well before that.

I recall a story about a TV reporter doing an image transmission of one of the early (in 40s) A-Bomb tests out in remote New Mexico. With cooperation of the old AT&T, he got a phone line patched through to the East Coast. The image managed to get through and was broadcast out through the metropolitan stations to viewers. Portable TV Camera equipment was STILL very bulky, and alot of real world remote 'video' was originally done (for a long time) by first shooting photographic film and then converted for broadcasting.

Rapture's miniature cameras (BTW how good WAS the Head-Cam that Delta had or the various survaliance cameras that Atlas/Sinclair/Lamb/Ryan used to watch the player - normal resolution? probably NOT color...) made for major improvements of the visual component of 'Media' in Rapture. The MMORPG can retain parts of that technology, though maybe NOT as effective/reliable as pre-Civil-War Rapture.

--- --- ---

MORE, Too Rosy was ADAM :

The BS1 plot backstory implied that many people in Rapture started using ADAM products in order for them to compete with others already using them to enhance their abilities. Which, IF they didn't, THEN they would be left behind (or so the advertisements said). This implies that ADAM products had to be quite cheap (or few people could afford to take them constantly for such a mania to take hold). Such large-scale use HAD to have eventually started manifesting the bad side-effects (contrary to the seemingly sudden problem just being 'realized' after Fontaine was 'dead' -- "Slow down Mary" Smart Splicing Public Announcement from BS1) ... AND well before "It was ALL Ryan's fault" (the lame plot smear...). The Newspapers would have had a field day with such scare stories, which would lead to large numbers of people being afraid of touching the stuff, and probably resulting in calls for lynching Fontaine as the purveyor of such poison (or revenge on him by those whom his product had maimed or their relatives). But then, if that had happened, the ADAM Plague may have been stopped/marginalized -- which wouldn't work for the simplistic Twist-required plot, or the easy contrived Fail-Topia(tm) setting .

A more logical story would have mentioned hugely accelerated/widespread use of cruder ADAM concoctions for fighting the Civil War/Citizen's Self-defense, and Fontaine having destroyed information about any stabilizer components previously added to the ADAM Products (he wanted disorder after all, and his minions were just cannon-fodder to him). Also, the situation wasn't everyone in Rapture taking ADAM, but sufficient numbers who did were affected by it. It didn't take that many crazy/destructive Splicers to disrupt enough of the City to change the way everything worked.

Ryan wanted HIS City to live, and so he would try to avoid creating more damaged/crazy people - thus having to handle the terrorists a different way (despite McDonagh's inconsistant verbage), through heavily armed security/a mobilized militia/expanded security measures and then looking for an alternative (like the Pheromone control of Atlas's Splicer army or terrorists). That strategy progression was apparently largely achieved by the time of BS1 (Atlas was desperate and on-the-run).
