Lots More fabulous items/ideas for a BioShock Rapture MMORPG

--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- -

Part 130

--- --- --- --- ---

Famous Quote I just Made Up. But Who would have said it ?  :

"In Rapture the Fantasy could only be taken so far. With thousands of Tons of water waiting to crush you, reality was an important element." (On the other hand, it is evident the Infinite BS authors didn't much care about anything logical, only how they could leverage the previous games' reputation/branding to sell it. They even went as far as contriving a final scene of a visit to Rapture to create that so tenuous link, when it was completely disconnected from the rest of the game's story.)

--- --- ---

Game Mechanics page

Utility Value of Things :

Scenarios should not have rare/expensive/difficult-to-obtain specialty gear that you have to find to complete them and then their subsequent use is so narrow/limited that you probably never use it again. Having (borrowed ?) special items like that as part of the Quest can work. The Player's effort/resource cost put into a Mission's preliminaries shouldn't be so bothersome as to delay progress or outweigh whatever is gained by doing the Mission/Quest.

With broader object/tool/weapon interactions possible in the MMORPG, most objects can have quite wide/versatile uses.

--- --- ---

Canon (None Should be Loose)  :

The Novel (BioShock: Rapture) is to be taken as Canon as much as BS2 and Minervas Den and Multiplayer compatible details as far as name/places/events/characters/plots which are useful MMORPG material. All would be cohesively fit together to work logically (more than a little extra details added to explain/resolve discrepancies where possible, leaning on the vagueness of whats been previously supplied in-game, handling the hearsay/biased opinion and possible errors in the "proofs" to allow integrating them into the whole).

Even a number of bits from BaSx can add some nice Assets -- but much there can (WHEN NEEDED) be EASILY ditched/discarded/ignored as only being details from 'a separate universe' or some crazy persons delusions, WHEN it contradicts previous Rapture, or is simply too NON-science (ie- the 'Air Grabber' stuff is utter crap) to be outside the sci-fi theme of the MMORPG's Rapture.

Vignettes

Amusing Vignettes :

  • Splicer crap game (with real crap)
  • Yet Another Weird Sight : Cats Wearing Masks : pix Perhaps just a Splicer 'joke', OR evidence of something much more serious. "Dr Frisky" might be mentioned.

--- --- ---

Where Does the Power For Columbia Come From ?  :

A few smokestacks/chimneys on buildings are hardly enough to power all the electric lights we see (no sign of where the masses of fuel for any of this comes from).

pix the contemporary generators

For 'barges', those weird flamey rocket jet things appear to maneuver them, but really can't work (firing only down ???) and would be most effective at setting fire to the vehicle (If you are ever offered to invest in a Levine/2K Energy Technology Company run the other way quickly).

BTW, This Power issue is just for moving things, and IS ignoring the Kraaken in the Closet of energies used by 'particles' to resist gravitational force upon the weight of an entire city (at least Flash Gordon's flying city had Radium furnaces stoked by slaves).

Sorry hack writers, you really cannot explain everything away with "Quantum Particles". With the same magic technology and a little imagination, Columbia really COULD have been the White Man's Heaven/Eden with no Untermenschen required to contaminate it (or offer fake plot), and it could float off to the Moon to be away from any disturbing 'evil' humanity below (which WAS the point of the place, No ?).

--- --- ---

Infinte BullShit page

Miscegenation #77 BS  :

A woman to throw a ball at someone (in some racialist act) ?? Unheard of and startling idea to see a white woman act so. A woman watching a man do it - pretty much the same. So full of shit this whole thing is.

This whole Dog and Pony Show to offer some kind of Racist stunt to make believe the game is all about social issues ??? Actually this scene shows supreme ignorance about society of that era, as well as demonstrating the milk-toast cowardice of the writers for not showing something realistic - something that would disturb the sensibilities of game critics and companies' detractors. But no, nothing of the sort.

--- --- ---

Geo-Magnetic Activity Can Affect Columbia's FloatyShit(tm)  :

Imagine what Sunspot Activity or Tesla's Death Ray would do to Columbia (and did) ...

Massive EMP disrupts whatever bullshit nonsense the Luteces supposedly built to control the 'Particles'. Power overload -- assuming that the Laws Of Physics and engineering (and everything else) aren't completely missing from this Fantasy.

So in many of Comstock's Prophesies he saw Columbia lying torn, burnt and twisted upon the ground, and his own corpse rotting in the ruins. Nice side story, No? Actually Imaginative ??

--- --- ---

Box Head Alternatives (Lets Add to the Stupidity Seen in BaSx) :

  • Turkey on head (skeletal cuz it was tasty, and You Was So Hungry ...)
  • Toilet on head (ADAM also cures constipation ...)
  • The Walking Barrel (NOW THAT WOULDA been a surprise to see a Splicer come crawlin' outa a crate or barrel you try to loot back in the good BioShock games).
  • Mardi Gras head (Sander Cohen was the second most favorite party head ...)
  • Bag over your head ( like those gormless Vox in that Freaky "Infinite" Art Movie. )

Eventually Splicers did start wearing masks on the BACK of their heads to keep others from sneaking up behind them.

--- --- ---

Game Mechanics

Missions(Quests)  :

  • Short Missions (ones you can do if you have 15 minutes to play)
  • Long Missions (ones that turn into an Expedition and might take several playing sessions)
  • Progressive (multi part) Missions
  • Easy Missions (and Very Easy Missions)
  • Hard Missions (and Very Hard Missions)
  • Fun/Humorous Missions
  • Missions which are Progressive (increasing difficulty but with greater rewards as you go)
  • Missions to earn skills, abilities or 'stuff', or Formulas for Fabrication
  • Missions to gain Reputation
  • Missions to Learn the Backstory (need to be extravaganza so that merely "Looking It Up On Internet" isnt nearly as good).
  • Missions to advance New Rapture

A variety to allow for different/flexible Player styles/intentions,

Some have chance for Player to regroup and retry them when failed.

Many are of limited duration/deadline (and shouldn't be part of a long list of pending missions)

Shouldn't be a static set which every one of the 1000000s Players ALL do exactly the same. Have enough combinations to not have them repeat much.

Missions the Player creates for OTHER players ??? (I need X so post a Mission to get it)

Additional Missions and variations being added as Creators create them (after vetting/publishing of course).

--- --- ---

Plump Mussels "Delicious, Deep Diving Dinner"  :

Good bacteria-fed Mussels fresh from near Rapture's sewer outlets (to quote Fontaine - "Who's gonna know ?" )

Don't laugh, those small (popcorn) shrimp you get at the supermarket (or in cheap shrimp cocktails) are grown in human waste, mostly in places like Bangladesh. They are shelled because in the boats on the way over they have to treat them with industrial strength chemicals to get the sewage taste out of them. Supposedly the larger ones with their shells still on are OK, but the 'growers' may now be gluing the shells back on after 'the above' type processing (and origin).

--- --- ---

Windows, Lots of Windows (as in TOO MANY done in-game) :

Many of the 'Art Deco' buildings built in the late-20s/30s/postwar-40s tried to maximize their windows because Air Conditioning was still new and expensive (for cooling, when steam heat was more developed and used for systematic building heating - steam was even provided from nearby utility company plants). H-shaped structures, setbacks, internal courts, and small profile towers were frequently used to achieve a greater window availability/access (versus monolithic modern building where windows don't open at all).

In Rapture, windows are a liability and add great expense (because they have to be built strong enough to hold out that extreme water pressure). The buildings seen in the distance, in the outside views, have far too many windows (usually are far too Tall also) - row after row of repeated floors, covered in windows -- which does not reflect the design of *ANY* of the buildings we actually are inside of in any of the Rapture games. )

((The MMORPG Rapture will be a bit more conservative - how is a Tall building 'special' when ALL the buildings are also Tall ?? SO Lots more squat buildings (they are cheaper to build), so that the 'tall' buildings (with 20 stories now being 'tall') will be special. Windows will be fewer and better spaced and positioned in accordance to the required structural thickness of walls.))

--- --- ---

Stop Smashing Those Bottles, They Are Valuable.  :

The value of what you might have considered trash has changed. Unfortunately, Splicers are as smart as you are so in the MMORPG out in 'The Ruins' you won't be finding much of use in those various containers you once 'bin dived' in. Those containers are waterproof, so actually many would have been carted off themselves to be used for storage (and be something to be found in various Splicer lairs).

--- --- ---

Rapture_TV Movies

Adventures of Diver Dan :

Add story about a Big Daddy (the City's Maintenance Cyborgs existing BEFORE 'Protectors' -- need to be called something like 'Diver Dans' for public labeling) who accidentally drops into the Abyss 'Trench' and finds the Mermaid City ... (and look !!! MerPonies !!! )

One of those 'made for TV' childrens stories ? (and problem with promoted 'toys' which can't really be mass produced the way they are up in America (of that time) - they would cost several times the equivalent price due to being made in shorter runs (or just less quality & expense - as seen in the gift shop at Ryan Amusements which have really low quality stuff).

--- --- ---

Big Daddy Comes Running :

When a Player shootout with a Splicer happens a Big Daddy with no Little Siter will frequently run to the location and take a defensive stance (seen in BS1), often when a Security alarm from a Scanner is tripped they also will do that.

You could reason that there might be damage from fighting requiring immediate maintenance (even though in the game the structure and machinery are invulnerable).

-

Little Sister Comes Running :

If you pickup and move the corpse of a DB with a un-processed LS with it, the LS will move to be near the BD. No real utility, just something to play with. There might have been, if some other non-escorting BD or some ADAM-hungry Splicer coming by would (in the game) try to pickup/grab the orphaned LS.

--- --- ---

Game Mechanics

No Artificial Walls in the MMORPG :

There won't be any "You Don't Have The Corresponding Quest" when you attempt to enter something setup for some static Mission (because of the 'On-The-Fly generation, there won't be very many of those). The fact that you found it gives you access to at least the place. Likewise, NO Magic invisible forcefield walls (game-enforced-movement-prevention) which will block you from obvious otherwise-easily-reached things beyond (That is done in many static-Mission-oriented games - in-view places which you aren't allowed to reach/move through because of where the 'level' stops, and its background terrain extends beyond).

Automatic generation allows creation of appropriate TRAVERSABLE terrain (as far as you can go), but IS helped by the fact that Rapture is an interior of a set of finite structures and an overall pattern for the City IS finite also. All the outside spaces can be reached also, if you bother.

But alot of new terrain is always to be found for Missions. The MMORPG's modifiable terrain system allows creation of additional locations reached through some door "you hadn't noticed before" (and maybe a building floor the elevator normally didn't stop at ?). Appropriate 'generic' places suit many Mission profiles, with the contents of those places being what's important. Likewise manhole covers and gratings (leading down to "who knows what") can be just about anywhere to access all those hidden "nooks and crannies" which are everywhere in Rapture. Vents and ducting can always have that loose panel that opens onto somewhere new.

--- --- ---

"WE DONT WANT THE IRISH"  :

Kinetoscope "Solving the Irish problem!" (send them to Fink and then HE would really be in trouble).

If there were still Irish in Columbia (as alluded), then it ALL never would have happened. Where is the Catholic Church they would demand to have ? Actually NO SIGN of anything Christian there in Columbia (See Ken Levine's Strange Ideas About American Religion. The Irish would kill Comstock or have long previously left if he tried to impose his cultish idolotrous non-christian religion on them, or tried to enslave them. The Irish in that 1893 era were a large portion of America's policemen and made up significant portions of the military (put there onboard when the US Government ran the place). THEY would have eliminated Comstock's little coup attempt -- assisted by the rest of the Americans on-board who did not and would not believe Comstock's Founder Claptrap.

Comstock's supposed "Prophesies" (as alleged used to convince people that he was some Great Prophet, and that they should follow him, and hand him money, etc ...) couldn't impress/sway the Irish. What exactly those "Prophesies" were when they supposedly were made from looking into other dimensions, BUT looking at realities where OTHER/DIFFERENT things happened from in his timeline can't much help him. Comstock couldn't select or know whether anything he saw/was seeing was relevant to his world's future when he was looking through a mere keyhole to try to view a whole World (and trying to spot something he could use to impress/swindle people). And that's only if he could even find anything remotely resembling his own dimension. Elizabeth repeatedly opened Tears where significant changes existed, so the same would be with Comstock's attempts.

How he ever did this for his (made so ridiculously short) Tent-Meeting 'got religion' days could only be explained by his sudden skill at being a Conman/Charlatan (again its all somehow done in that amazing 3 years after Wounded Knee ...) You see, people in those days were not as gullible as those 'smart' game writers assume they were. Most people in America would look on his Faux-Christianity with derision, and be able to quote Bible verses at his errors all day. He would be passed off as a crank. The Luteces would distance themselves from that notoriety or face the same denunciations. Seriously, How desperate were the writers to form such a rubbish storyline around such poor assumptions ?

SO Irish in Columbia ?? NO. So here again the writers in their interviews (( "Look. Look. We have Racism against whites TOO ... So we aren't singling out blacks... So WE aren't Racists ... " )) were TOUTING their utter Ignorance about what they assume they know about real people and that period of American history. I can only assume the head Ignoramus was Ken Levine himself, as he was the one who signed off on it all. As one game reviewer wrote : "The game's Writers seems to be trying to show off how clever they were, when they really weren't very clever at all"

--- --- ---

Cutting Commentaries Can Be Amusing :

Cloddumbia - a satirical farce play story by Sander Cohen involving a magical floating city and a creepy religious cult (allegories for the problems of the parasite-infested Surface World - made to earn brownie point with Ryan ... ) The zany antics of an odd fellow named 'Becomestuck', and his dancing parrot, made it a perennial favorite production.

--- --- ---

I don't recall : Did we ever see a Barbershop in Rapture ?  :

ADAM can't really shape hair. (They tried, but even Fontaine shudders when he thinks about THAT...)

A barbershop quartet (of Fish) Cartoon Commercial for one of the Fishery companies that Fontaine strong-armed the owners out of ??

--- --- ---

Lawyers in Rapture :

Being some of the most tenacious and damaging of Parasites, Ryan probably would have limited their numbers (possibly by just having fewer laws and loopholes that the Parasites on the Surface live off of). To have City-scaled businesses and business deals, you HAVE to have a certain amount of legal paperwork for contracts, etc ... (But these could be simplified to virtually be standardized fill-in documents - NOT requiring a lawyer). For trials, having 'advocates' to takes sides when a situation is subject to Laws is another requirement (Just having arbitrating judges can simplify many cases, but advocates/case-organizers would still be wanted for something more than running a Popcorn Stand). Not having an overburden of laws and regulations would be the goal - not complete absence of legal due process.

--- --- ---

Rapture in Space - Ever see Art Deco buildings on the Moon, or in a Space Station ??

--- --- ---

The Elephant in The Room (at Ryan's Council Meetings) :

What to do about Atlas (just let the Security do its work and get the populace to cooperate).

("The Elephant in The Room" was actually a Jimmy Durante bit that became a Meme )

THE MEETING (example of a City Council Meeting)

--- --- ---

Rapture Underworld ...  :

Mentioned before : Rapture's (Beneath the Streets) under areas can be more generic (and forgetable) and handy in facilitating many 'on-the-fly Mission scenarios. They also are less aesthetic and more irregular and varied in contents. No matter how well planned (for the Prefabricated structural construction), things get added/changed/removed/adjusted/repairs to change things significantly over time (and Rapture had almost 15 years before BS1).

--- --- ---

Strange Splicer Tale #431  :

I don't think Howard Huges ever flew the Spruce Goose (Hercules) to Rapture, do you ??

Another one of those strange tails Splicers tell ... (Jars of Urine all over the place - yeah THATS the reason ... OMG OMG THAT explains that!!!) Note Conspiracy Theories do help while away the years when all 'the goodies' are gone (THAT !@#$%^&* FONTAINE !!!!).

--- --- ---

“Ideal Fourth of July Picnic.”  :

"the exhilarating Sky-Line transit system sets you soaring above and throughout Columbia"

Ideas are a dime a dozen, delivering product is the HARD part (the Infinite BS games system was reduced to a mere combat facilitating detail, and lost most of what the game Trailers implied it would be.

Such a system would have 'Wowed Em' at the 1893 event *IF* it had been used for Passenger transport (no skyhook weirdness thought). And the system would have CONTINUED to be useful as Columbia expanded (the short hops of various disconnected systems and the walking between them would have been VERY annoying to inhabitants who routinely had to get across Columbia.

How early did they know THAT original vision (the impressive citywide Skyline experience) which WASN'T to be in the game, and why didn't they give back their awards for actually just showing mock ups representing a better non-existent game that wasn't going to ever happen ?

--- --- ---

"A stunning original world of retro-sci-fi technology and gorgeous scenery.“ - IGN (Imagine Games Network)

Of course you don't get lots of advertisement money from game companies when you tell the unfortunate truths about their games ...

--- --- ---

"Jean Banks" was a Infamous Dancer in Early Rapture  :

Who mysteriously died after some strange dealings with Sander Cohen (drug overdose was the official cause). The ADAM Modification device probably was NOT named after him.

--- --- ---

Sales Figures for BioShock Games :

An interesting statistic to know would be how many copies of BS1/BS2 (out of the millions they claim) were $5 'discounted' (the Steam forum talk for BioShock 1/2 are largely complaints of that version having major problems (like not working at all)).

Interesting about statements saying the franchise sold 16 million (but does that include DLC sale units too ? (Was that figure for all 3 games also ???) And also was it ones that Retailers bought, but may have been later returned as unsaleable ?). For Infinite BS's huge production costs AND overruns/late-penalties (and add the equally huge marketing/sales expenses which aren't usually mentioned) having eaten alot of its Gross sales money -- that might be the reason 2K/Irrational went bye bye.

Some reviewer asked about Infinite BS : That after 5 years development and all the money spent, and so much in the Trailers being shown, and THEN the players only getting that dumbed-down 8-hour game, that it must have been a real fustercluck (result - ending Levine's employment and the franchise).

--- --- ---

Photography was Already a Big Hobby for People :

So lots of "snappies" would be to be found laying about the Ruins, of better times or any old thing (handy as 'clues' to be discovered in Missions ...) There would be many fewer being taken when Rapture went to Hell because of Atlas/Fontaine's terrorism, as supplies and interest were shifted to other concerns.

Doesn't have to be any 'Research Camera' shots either just regular photos/slides.

Not likely that there would be any 'early' Electronic Cameras, as the technology was far too primitive and the resolutions so poor as to not have them be a viable alternative.

In BS1 we saw all those "Have You Seen Me" pictures of people that Atlas murdered (or who went insane on ADAM and got themselves killed or lost.

--- --- ---

Genetic Technology page

Polymerase Chain Reaction :

Process used to repeatedly copy DNA (which then can be used to generate RNA). The activation of DNA/RNA replication (unzipping double helix to form/build its complimentary half molecule). You do not need the full DNA/RNA molecule to do the replication of the proteins required for specific tasks.

Useful in various ADAM related operations where particular genetic patterns need to be massively replicated (the RNA used to guide Plasmid/Tonic 'feature' placement in a body, or the repairs of medical/cosmetic treatments).

--- --- ---

Who Keeps Filling The Vending Machines ?  :

Most amazing thing of all - that in Rapture there is ANYTHING left in any of the vending machines -- if things are as bad as the game implies ('Failtopia' - remember...). If everything is so disrupted and people so desperate, then they'd have broken in and stolen EVERYTHING that wasn't already bought out. Those things then wouldn't be replaced (money became useless, etc...). For BS2, after years of further erosion of abilities and facilities (and incompetence of the Crazy Lady), most of the stuff just couldn't be made anymore anyway (though substituting appropriate things would have been fun -- "WHAT ? $15 for just ONE Rock ?? That's ridiculous !!!"... "Get Some More Money Buddy!!!").

FOR Columbia, it was supposed to have not quite gotten to 'Fail' yet, but that place has very weird stuff in the machines, and even stranger Pricing. Besides the belief that such Soulless machines, taking away jobs of 'the godly', could ONLY be the work of the Devil -- and Every One Of Them would be smashed and inoperable, no matter what Comstock said ( or HE would soon have found himself "Smashed and Inoperable"). Iconoclasm WOULD/SHOULD have been a better story for Infinite BS's Columbia (Ludditism was one of the original concept ideas for a Failtopia-esque game environment -- maybe they should have stuck with it.).

--- --- ---

Various Seal Mechanisms Between Building Structures and Other Things :

Rapture's Utility system is composed of Vents/pipes/cables/etc have to connect through the compartmentalization that makes up Rapture. Materials expand and contract at different rates, so there will always be some kind of gap involved, which needs to be sufficiently secured and plugged with a strong (preferably narrow) flexible material (Seals). There are such transitions especially at the points where prefabricated building sections are joined.

When any major leaks happen, causing increased pressure in a compromised section, the seals beyond it at least minimize/contain the leakage spreading until a time when the leak's cause can be fixed.

The doors which seal sections (in MY plans) are often in sequential pairs for a safer redundancy (but allow immediate passage unlike the 'cycling' Security Airlocks we see in a number of places (those are used for game 'level' transitions which you CANNOT just walk through ...).

--- --- ---

Building the Missionz (Player Creation Aspect)  :

Neverwinter Nights (a game) long ago had a Multiplayer mode - Player run Servers for upto 64 players (but really ran only upto 32 effectively), and an Editing system to build level maps (each Server's 'World'). A few Players figured out (within the abominible limitations and feeble company programming support) how to "Save" a Player's character state (data) to transfer that between associated Servers (to allow bigger Player run 'worlds', run with sections on separate level maps on separate Server machines).

You got an Editor (with a 'wizard' based interface) that used and stitched together predefined chunks of terrain from a published set (they later published additional Player-created terrain 'library' sets ) and allowed free placement of props within that terrain, and then placement of Adversary (NPC) objects, and then some Scripting (rather slow running code) to do activations/respawns and various interesting interactive things (including mission type definition logic) . Portals could link/jump between a World's submaps. Some tools created "Dialog Trees" to facilitate semi-intelligent menu type Player interactions with NPCs (they could have logic and scripting embedded within the 'Dialog' tree that changed the tree's optional branches, depending on game/char factors). The NPC Adversaries used standard behavior logic (which did get rewritten and improved by Players, and later was published by the game company to all Players as a general "Server Mod" ).

In that game you built a World 'map' (including Solo game campaigns) and could publish it, so other Players would download and run it on their own Servers (with required 'installs' of any matching/required 'Mod Libraries' required to be existing on each Player's Client/Server machines). And there was a way to find the IP address of such Player-run Servers (many found on a simple company forum and game listing app site), and add them to a Connection list to allow the player's Client to login and run on that Multi Player Server).

This all happened 15+ years ago.

So how is this different from the idea I have for Player Created Missions on this BioShock MMORPG ?

  • Company run Servers for the BioShock MMORPG (a paid service - thats their reason for it).
  • Actual company support to improve/fix/patch the game mechanisms on a more substantial scale.
  • Lots more props (added to significantly more by the Players).
  • More fluid/flexible 'terrain' creation.
  • Alot of attribute/environment based behaviors for the NPCs (much more capable).
  • Far better Player-done Behavior scripting and programming of AI logic.
  • Tools Tools Tools and more Tools
  • Interface Plugins (to make add-ons improvements more flexible)
  • Online Community as an integral part of the system (to try to flatten the developers learning curve).
  • Helper 'Team' NPCs (more options in a world where much of the time you really cannot do group play consistently)

--- --- ---

Swinging Doors In Rapture :

Not all doors would have been automatic (the expense alone would be one reason - not just to install, but also to maintain). Doors which swung are harder to do in a game engine - for the character NOT to bump into them while in a hurry (and when clearing any movable objects), AND to not require the hand doing the animation (within a short arms length) --- Particularly when one arm has a weapon and the other is a big drill. (We did see a swinging door in the BaSx 'Tour' section - your (Booker's) hands push/shove open a a pair of swinging doors).

Repairing derelict sliding doors might be difficult in the MMORPG's Rapture (but worth having to show off in your residence/shop).

Hanging curtains useful as a interior door 'alternative' (hmm beads... The Cloth techniques used for graphics these days can do stuff like this - proper physics as you 'push through' ...)

"Kicking in a Door" can be regained as a Cliche Action

--- --- ---

Humor

War Of The Worlds (That HG Wells Story, 1897) Was Caused By Tears ?  :

Seems those Martians (or "The Followers of Marty" as they call themselves) they heard a rather obscene insult against their favorite pop singing star and instantly declared a War of Annihilation against the perpetrators, which they happen to have identified as on Earth.

SO, All kinds of Repercussions for the affect of these artificial interdimensional instabilities might have many Worlds (and in many dimensions) rather angry when they figure out who's causing it.

Big Foot ? You can add your own story to explain that stuff ...

The Lutece Particles themselves cause some of the worst effects in other dimensions (and Columbia was loaded with them). Consider also : almost at once the technology was available to the US Government and all the other countries (after their spies WOULD have crawled all over Columbia during the Exposition and stolen every thing there). (If Suchong could recreate 'Tear' machine just by looking at Finks running the Luteces device, what could 100s of other greater geniuses, and far more resources, then lead to ???) So then everything in the future which Columbia would face changed anyway -- so very drastically and completely.

Columbia itself and Comstock would have been destroyed (particularly as the sloppy Lutece's weird 'quantum' machinery was spewing dangerous Tears everywhere, so they (in so many dimensions) were hunted down and obliterated by flying Dreadnoughts with technology far superior to the backward 'Columbia'. That all happened just a few years after Comstock went 'rogue'. Teddy Roosevelt himself shot 'Songbird' with his 'Hyper-Rifle', but declared it no challenge, and hesitated to even have the stuffed carcass put in the Smithsonian.

The Columbia Story you see in the game is just a 'Psychic Circus Presentation' viewed by toddlers in the Earth's future as an entertainment and potty training aid.
