Lots More fabulous items/ideas for a BioShock Rapture MMORPG

--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- -

Part 126

--- --- --- --- ---

One Step Too Far :

Zippers were first manufactured during 1924 and it took some time before zippers were widely used. Fink stealing it (via Tear AND The Manufacturing process to make them - the actual HARD PART), and his employing them on his next season's products backfired :

PROPHET DECLARES ZIPPERS AS UNHOLY - CLOTHING BURNING BONFIRES TO BE ATTENDED NEXT SATURDAY

FINK TO BE EXECUTED AS TOOL OF SATAN (Must Not Miss - Its Sunday! Sunday!! SUNDAY!!! Bring The Children !!!)

(Possibly, Comstock had looked into a Tear and saw the Columbia Jeremiah Fink had taken over after killing Comstock).

--- --- ---

MMORPG - Rapture Adjustment Through the Understanding of Its Actual 'City' Environment  :

Historically, people came to cities from extended outside areas to get things they couldn't otherwise obtain -- in a City specialized businesses are made practical. With better transportation, the businesses built up to serve people from greater areas - much more than the city's own inhabitants. Banking and Investment institutions centralized in Cities. Manufacturing which uses "Economy of Scale" to be efficient, uses a city's population as its critical mass to work that 'scale'. Numerous attractions in a city also can bring in tourist visitors, even from across a country.

Rapture cannot be like this. It has to be self-contained, and does not have these huge outside areas to tap into for customers (Rapture serves only its own population, unlike most cities, and even Rapture's outlying resource operations are only short miles away, ).

Rapture only has the population of a small town, limiting all 'scale' of manufacturing because of the limited customers, thus making small businesses far more prevalent. The MMORPG would reflect all of this.

A General Lack of Logic in A Game Allegedly with 'Story' :

Ryan's Trophy Wall - More a Warning what happens to Traitors (Assassins killed by those Loyal to Ryan ...

A bunch of people who worked for Ryan did not seem to have much loyalty to him (with their assassination attempts and all - those ones shown pinned up on that wall leading to Rapture Central Control). Consider that there were many hundreds more who worked for Ryan and Rapture, who we have no evidence they followed that path. It seems a bit fabricated and idiotic (a case of 'The Plot Says So') that McDonagh thinks it is going to be better by handing Fontaine's Plasmid Manufacturing Facilities over to the thugs/criminals who worked with Fontaine, so they can hand Plasmids to Atlas's terrorists. Exactly WHO SHOULD Ryan be handing Fontaine Futuristics over to? Especially since Fontaine probably was not one to share power with Anyone?. The Designers/Devs seem to have shoveled out the "Ryan is the Bad Guy" stuff pretty thick, with few real explanations of why Ryan did certain things, and suggest virtually no reasonable/likely/logical alternatives (like shutting Fontaine Futuristics down as a public health hazard, or maintaining/converting it to work on a Cure...). Later a Civil War is raging and Ryan is supposed to give up an equalizer (control of Splicers/ most of the ADAM supply), and let Atlas's army of Splicers take over Rapture instead ?? Madness.

Convenient Inconsistency of Ryan and Of Events Staged in The Game

It (the whole game) was all a setup/fabrication for the WYK Ryan swansong 'Twist' which is pretty "dim" (a kinder word than "stupid") in itself. Ryan's character was UNLIKELY to be a *Surrender Monkey*, that being quite contradictory to all the other things explained about him in the game. This makes you think - how fast the 'Atlas Problem' really would have actually been over IF Ryan had offered 10000 ADAM to anyone taking Atlas "Dead or Alive" (everyone seemed right-pleased to be gunning for Jack because of a 1000 ADAM Bounty -- so how long could Atlas hold out against such a Proscription ???) If anything, it would have curtailed alot of Fontaine/Atlas's activities while he was alive, as he would never know when he might turn around and get a shotgun blast in the chest/face. The Splicers whom he 'led', being insane, might not EVER be too trustworthy. It would just take one successful attempt, and then "Problem Solved". Pathetic. We need better writing than this from games - particularly a franchise they endlessly touted as being about 'story'.

--- --- ---

That Oops Moment :

Booker and Elizabeth make it to Paris, them skipping along, and THEN they seen the Germans parading up the Champs Elysees, and NEXT you see them running away VERY FAST (And someone shouting "HALT !!! HALT !!!" ) ...

--- --- ---

Against Stupidity, Even The Infinite Stands Powerless :

If you could Dimension Travel (or rather the infinite others ahead of you using that 'ability'), then any change you make can spawn infinite possible things in that OTHER universe, any one of which might comeback to YOUR universe (or go to others starting OTHER things, which might proceed back) and destroy it (or YOU directly) in infinite ways at infinite points in existence. Anyone of these infinite things can then proceed on to destroy infinite additional universes or bits of it (and go on to do the same to many/every universe).

Therefore, since things exist here, Dimension Travel is obviously not possible. (QED)

Breaking causality is not a good thing for a story - it reduces it to gibberish, and loses all meaning to those it is presented to. Infinite possibilities to do so is that much moreso. And there being no Dimension Travel means there also is no Time Travel - also wiping out THAT problem.

The problem with this 'infinite' idea is that it is self-cancelling.

--- --- ---

"Almost No Light Penetrates Below 490 Feet of Water Depth in the Ocean, Even in Clear Water"  :

With the sewage around Rapture, causing bacteria to grow in the water, then "clear" ISN'T what the water is, and thus it is even murkier (And all/any light is absorbed in even less distance). Say goodby to those long distance views of Rapture cityscape, more than a few hundred feet away (and the tops of the tall buildings seen from their own base).

Need a Rapturesque/Ocean-ish name like "Smog" to label this effect.

??? "Hurk" - combination of Haze and Murk ?? "Muze" (better cuz also MUck and Ooze and maybe Muddy)

--- --- ---

"Batshiterian Energy" (a good Steampunky name):

So what pair of tweezers did Rosalind Lutece use to hold/look at her first 'Particle' ?

Try hanging a automobile from a pair of tweezers - that's an example of 'FORCE' and 'MASS' (you know those things in real Physics) which gets exerted/exerted-upon to 'hold'/move things (as in 'up' like Columbia ...)

Weird blue orb things ? (Don't the mechanical Horse thingees have those too ? They don't fly, DO they ?? Pigeons are bad enough.) They are something else ?? SO now some magic power source - is that blue glow Radium ?? Oh goodie, then radiation would be killing everyone (except Columbia's racist Fake-Americans have supposedly been there for at least 7 years, no ?) Hmm, maybe they really are those amazing 'Flavor Crystals' (Retsyn) they put in Certs breath mints ???

So these floaty "Particle's" otherwise will then have to be numerous and everywhere throughout Columbia and the attached to what ?? (Not just the structural support, but some magic mechanism to 'power' them, or to 'sustain'/'stabilize' them, or whatever-something interfaced to the REAL WORLD bits of Columbia).

Sorry this is like saying that technological marvel you probably have (computer or smartphone/celphone) is 'plugged into' a fireplace (and Presto! it all seems to work). Maybe Quantumz Particles are powered by "Presto! Logs" ?????????) Yeah that sound logical, don't it ?

Once you realize things like this, you start to understand the problem with coupling Fantasy with real world concepts and labels. (Lets call it "Batshiterian Energy" and just avoid attempting to explain too much.)

--- --- ---

The Problem with Asset Detail Quality Advancements - Consistency :

The extra work to make something accurate then might need to be applied to most everything in the game for consistency, or you would have the *better* stuff visually (experiencially) conflict Immediately with the lesser quality stuff.

In a MMORPG, there is a HUGE amount of detail, and the development task then multiplies geometrically for such consistent quality improvements - as compared to even a typical AAA Game. Having LA Noire quality human interaction followed by some crude cartoonishly-detailed Asset assemblage can be quite jarring (easily noticed). This MMORPG's Template mechanism may help a bit to ease the task, but there's always the corners/endcases that cannot be generalized (which can take ALOT of work to make of equivalent quality).

So how do you hold to some median quality, while allowing the BEST Player Creators to do (put time/effort into) what they CAN and WANT to do (making use of the improved abilities/capacities of the MMORPG's advancements) ????

--- ---

MOORPG :

A Cow version of Rapture is NOT impossible (just getting someone do do enough of it - a massively expanded 'Secret Cow Level' ...)

--- --- ---

Inclement Weather :

Never gets mentioned : What Happens to Columbia in the Winter or during a Storm ?

'Above the Weather' ? It is fricken cold at that height already (besides the lack of oxygen). Wind chill drives effective temperatures even lower.

Plays hell with floaty shit - magical glowey widgets short when it is wet out, or seize up in the cold. Skyline rails get slippery, snow and ice clogs everything.

All those nonsturdy looking statues will topple over in the gale force winds. Floaty vehicles (particularly the 'Zeppelins') will careen about the sky and crash into things in the gusts (if not deadly collisions between those separate floaty chunks of Columbia). Banners and flags can be torn to shreds.

Does Columbia head South for the winter ???

--- --- ---

Reason Suchong's "Tear Machine" was Broken  :

He realized that opening 'Tears' could lead to places with VERY BAD THINGS IN THEM, and quickly curtailed that activity (he wasn't stupid). What might Suchong have seen that decided the issue :

  • Advanced Technology Cat Aliens who ate humans
  • Someplace where a plague had destroyed the population (seeing bodies laying about unburied, pustules covering them and signs they died in agony...)
  • A brief exposure to something that burned up half the lab (and was fortunately shut down quickly in time before it killed him).
  • A performance of a Punk Rock band ("Suchong's Ears Feel Like Filled With SHIT !!!!").
  • Opening onto a Velociraptor that looked right at him, hungrily ...
  • Another Suchong saying "YOU STUPID. DANGER !! CLOSE DOWN THIS THING AT ONCE ... IDIOT !!!"
  • A World populated (populated or poopulated) by clones of 'Carrot Top' ........................ NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Then this "Stupid Meddlesome Woman" comes along before he has a chance to obliterate the machine and Turns It On Again!!!

--- --- ---

ADAM a Poison (Probably its Origin as a Poison used by the Sea Slug Organisms)  :

An interesting thing about ADAM's effect - too much tissue in transition for too long (being non-functional) can be damaging or even fatal to the 'prey' or 'enemy'. So control of the tissue to which the ADAM is applied (and its dosage) is important, and also how much change is allowed at any one time.

Apparently many real world Venoms have dozens of different components, and many of those are potentially useful as medicines for various treatments. This Stem Cell generation/regeneration thing they had the ADAM do is a bit more complex (and would have to be something common with lower lifeforms biochemistry for it to make sense to be IN the SeaSlugs poison in the first place).

--- --- ---

Fallen, Fallen is Babylon !!! (this not funny enough for the FillIn Funnies) :

It's falling, it's crashing !

Watch it, watch it !

Get out of the way !

Get this, Charlie !

Oh, the Humanity...

KJV; "And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird."

Sounds more like its talking about Infinite BS's Columbia, doesn't it ?

Historical Note - Babylon, destroyed by barbarians (who always hover on the edge of civilization) lay desolate for 1000 years before rising again ... Those old Mesopotamian cities, made largely of mud brick, when laid waste (and everyone killed or taken away as slaves) by a rival city, would be all but gone in a space of 50 years time (and leaving little structure for archeologists to find).

Yes, A bit too much for your usual game Player ... "GIMME MORE THINGS TO SHOOOT, U F#$%^ING TARDS !!!!!! ((a lesson that should have been there for Infinite BS - *MORE* better game mechanics, *LESS* attempting to be clever with some Contorted Asinine Plot(tm)))

--- --- ---

Prime Time :

Getting The Thinker to guest host the "Rapture Tonight" TV talk show really didn't work. The "AI" thing was largely a scam, though it did do a reasonable job mimicking a voice (Remember thought, that AGAIN you (the Player) have an ADAM-Addled brain, and probably would hear your Cornflakes talk to you in the morning at breakfast).

--- --- ---

Pathetic Gear ?  :

Pix of Protecto Gear

Nah too logical. Not quantumy enuf...

Ones for different parts of body - mask/head legs torso, boots ... make sense

Another version might have springs for melee attack strikes (take time to wind up/reset 'out of battle') legs-jumps (have to choose best time to use it ...) Sound of winding ...

Some bit might be armor metal (an upgrade) which at least protects you some from shrapnel and melee weapons.

Some overclothing that protects against fire or cold (reason to switch them - but not practical while IN battle/fighting.)

Belts/Bandolero with ammo packs (larger ammo max to be carried) or for quick weapon switch (holsters)

I guess in Infinite BS, with its simplified combat mechanics, there just weren't enough variations on 'powers' these things could function (ie- the "Hat" the makes you get more Cash from the vending machines ... or some "Pants" that make you shoot more accurately, etc ... )

That's the problem with slavishly trying to replicate a previous set of game mechanics into a Different context which doesn't quite fit, and has been significantly downsized/simplified. Too many things the same, fewer specialized uses allowed/needed, less customizing for a play style. Not just dumbed down, but eliminating game replay to 'try new things' ..... Rather Stupid for a game maker actually.

--- --- ---

Ryan and Rapture, Rapture and Ryan :

I don't accept Ryan being the one dimensional cutout character they turn him into BECAUSE he would HAVE TO BE more than what they portray -- for him to have achieved what he did (and what the people of Rapture would have also realistically done). This can be realized when one knows and appreciates more about the real world (which this game allegedly was supposed to employ as a Foil against the Genetics 'Shock' aspect of the story). It was sophomoric to have him be inconsistently portrayed in the game (again a cohesive/logical story WAS NOT the priority when you are kludging together a shooter game - they were only a third of the way to showing us how interesting Rapture actually was - even just from its ruins).

Rapture didn't fall because of Ryan, it fell because Society (one similarly close to our own) fell apart because of the influence of a NEW element (the 'BIO' in BioShock). Rapture's society did not have the mechanisms to handle such a threat (or rather had many available mechanisms ignored to force the plot).

The vagueness of much of the narrative (its like trying to reconstruct 'The Story' from splotches of French tears and vomit on The Champs Elysees after the Nazi have taken Paris and marched through) leaves ALOT open to interpretation and begs further "Reading Between the Lines". Unfortunately they had the alibi of a limited budget and no real need for good storytelling (the primacy of the game's gunplay/killing activity trumps all).

--- --- ---

Where Do You Wear a Bikini in Rapture ?  :

Strange Image - Sander Cohen... (I won't say any more.)

Bikini Atoll nuclear tests 1946 ... (the origin of the name via a French clothing designer) About which the News from The Surface would NOT be lost on Ryan (and the people yet to come to Rapture)

There later, no doubt, would be some 'designers' in Rapture who thought they could do 'fashion'. (of course 'New' fashion and 'Good' fashion are two different things). When the contact with the Surface were severed by 1952, then the supply of 'good' from up there also largely stopped. (( Newspapers/magazines still being smuggled, still at significant expense, but they could be passed hand-to-hand for quite a long time. ))

There must've been some artificial Beach with artificial seawater and a strong artificial sun (and some sand). If someone was clever (hint - Sinclair) they could get some (relatively) big space (not the Stadium as THAT would have constant use for sports/other things) and have as its gimmick some constantly changeable (periodic) popular settings (one likely being a Beach simulation). "Carnival" (one node on my Rapture city map) might be a venue with many available facilities to complement such a 'seasonal' attraction.

--- --- ---

Multi Player Scenarios (Built into the Main MMORPG Game)  :

Columbia MP PvP (including a Skyhook weapon only variant with extraordinary persistent jibs)

You are (appear) either Booker (regular, Comstock, BaS) or Elizabeth (old new,BaS) -- now we have the excuse for duplication multi-dimensionsal stuff ... (customization mode can go wild - Booker in a Gimp-suit, bald Elizabeth with body piercings, etc...)

Some clothing mods, the usual Weapon/Vigor ramps (various 'achievements')

Nifty MP maps lifted from the Infinite BS game (closed level - for once a reason for the Skyline that goes nowhere).

Cooperative Scenarios (if the original games combat was repetitive and tedious, than so can this be).

Rapture (an alternate one) is invading Columbia (Attempt to fight the Big Daddy or the Spider infestation OR Sander Cohen is coming for some of his 'critics' ...)

Actual 3D movement (epic opportunity they missed in that game) - flying, climbing, jumping ...

All kinds of Player added stuff (though these days the copyright/trademark issues might be tighter).

A SKYLINE mode of PvP (have it look as those fraudulent Trailers and Presentations pretended Infinite BS had them - massive cityscape and system of tracks).

--- --- ---

Lingo Be Mah Way :

Infinite BS should have had far more 'Carnie Speak' embedded in the Columbia people's vocabulary to reflect not just its 'Show City' origins, but also the flim-flam act that Comstock would have had to do to get his little project 'on the road'.

http://www.goodmagic.com/carny/car_a-c.htm

--- --- ---

20000 People Lived in Rapture, each with their own story. This was just one of them...  :

From the old TV programme about NYC ... "The Naked Rapture"

The Novel mentions this population number, which ought to be 'Canon' enough - not too small for equating with the size of the 'city' we've been shown, but not too large to make the expense of building it too large (for Ryan and cohorts to manage) and the 'disappearance' of so many people not being too BIG to hide.

Additional population growth over the >10 years before the 'Civil War' 1946-52 (inflow) to BS1 1959

--- --- ---

Stealth Is :

Stealth Action Game Type - some MMORPG Mission scenarios - If you don't like them, go in guns blazing (and see what happens), or just skip and find another path. The Mission-Giver probably will give you a clue its this type of Mission (and difficulty/specialization) so you can make a decision early to take it (you can't have 45 'missions' stacked up like you do in most MMORPG - and THOSE having no time limit).

  • Scout out some area for the City, Survey some location just to see the extent of damage or useful paths or Faction activity.
  • Move unobtrusively into the area, observe, get out without any problems (for 'RCI' - Rapture Central Intelligence).
  • Rescue someone from 'their folly' out in The Ruins (dealing with Factions who don't like intruders who do stupid things).
  • Contacts with 'operatives' already embedded ...
  • Most dangerous is going up to 'the Surface' to run a 'Interference Play' on various world wankers who would very much like to get their hands on Rapture and its Secrets.
  • Contacts with Ryan Organization on the Surface to fetch yet more of 'something' for some emergency.
  • Nullification of one 'Leader', who is causing way too much trouble and endangering New Rapture (and you probably really just being 'the diversion' for the actual operation (alot of this shit can be like that).

Not a situation to take the (your) usual circus parade of NPCs into. (Specialized gear and skills, 'fewer is better', and 'Need to Know' is just one of those things ...)

NPCs (some anyway) might scout an approach to "whatever" (as the Mission lead in), and stage the further surveillance for YOU. Secret Recognition Password is "Sinclair Suppositories" (Try to work THAT into a light conversation.)

--- --- ---

Graphene (Hmm, a Goodie for the Plot as it Thickens)  :

One of those things that might be exploited for fictional RETRO technologies ...

"The Cambridge Graphene Centre and the University of Trieste in Italy conducted a collaborative research on use of Graphene as electrodes to interact with brain neurons. The research was recently published in the journal of ACS Nano.

The research revealed that uncoated Graphene can be used as neuro-interface electrode without altering or damaging the neural functions such as signal loss or formation of scar tissue. Graphene electrodes in body stay significantly more stable than modern day electrodes (of tungsten or silicon) because of its unique properties such as flexibility, bio-compatibility, and conductivity. It could possibly help in restoring sensory function."

Soooooo ... maybe a useful tool somehow for the ADAM based Bio-Electronics ??? (ie- a way to connect with the organic tissues require (fundamental) in my fictional Bio- Electronic technology in Rapture).

BTW, its been shown that you can obtain 'Graphene' by taking common Graphite and using mere Scotch tape to (over and over) separate the graphite (pure Carbon with a sheet crystalline structure) into its layers until you have a one-atom-thick piece of Graphene (THIS has been done in high school classes, actually).

Again this is supposing someone in Rapture was playing around with this stuff, and managed to notice (that's the real trick - the "realization" of something in front of them) and discover some very interesting properties, which then SOMEONE ELSE gets told about. THEY then could investigate/come up with a use for it ((See that's the REAL mechanism - a chain of collaboration between different expertise/knowhow/imagination, and NOT just one person's unrealistically discovering/developing/perfecting the THINGEE like Fink/Suchong (in BaSx), in some Simpleton's story, is said to have achieved. ))

--- --- ---

Those Anorexic Big Sisters -- Those Knee Joints and Sticklike Legs ...  :

Maybe the throwing up thing isn't intentional (reflex after years of conditioned ADAM retrieval ??).

1956 - 1959 ? (Fontaine's "orphans" and the later Little Sisters start as 7-9 ? years old) to 1967 (+11/+8) means the oldest Big Sisters are ~ 15-18 (Eleanor is probably around the age of earlier of those - apparently activated in first year of 'civil war' and then 'rescued').

The damage of such behavior might be withstood with the help of the Sea Slug's "healing powers".

-

It is actually implausible that a 'Sea Slug' could exist in someone's stomach (or wherever within a human body this 'implantation' was done). So it reality, it MIGHT more be some more-complicated transplanting of certain sub-parts of the Sea Slug (and require some anti-rejection mechanism that human body would need).

((Heh, overcoming natural tendencies -- Otherwise we would have, out in the Ocean, some predator (who eats these Sea Slugs) organism with ADAM enhanced powers now menacing the entire Ocean).

Yes, probably TOO MUCH INFORMATION - but then remember the MMORPG is attempting to be MORE at least plausible "Science Fiction", so throwing in some logical explanations helps that (and such nifty tidbits at least indirectly can become motives for Mission plots in the MMORPG).

--- --- ---

Remastered (Whatever)  :

Apparently they've started offering a 'Remastered' version of Bioshock (BS1) now, which some reviewers have already said has various Porting issues and display mode Limitations and such. Generally this kind of thing is some Graphics Shader tweaking and the allowing of a larger screen view of the same game (some game engine change). There's some kind of 'Find the Golden Reels' achievement (something or other) which they then on their company blogsite tell you (indicate on maps) EXACTLY where they all are (well it gets someone to go/play thru the map again -- I just replay the Original). Feeds the usual people who HAVE TO buy that special "cut" of *whatever* with the extra 13 seconds of *NEW* scenes type-of-thing.

'Film Reels' are supposedly of what significance ??? (I guess they couldn't be "crucifixes" in those piles of Contraband). I haven't ascertained whether you get to 'view' them (reels) to see some *NEVER BEFORE SEEN* something or other.

Well anyway, if they did it 'On the Cheap' (minimal expenses - with digital purchase), and simply did it to boost new sales to new players (and that subset of Fanbois buying it yet again), then that's just a standard business practice these days (Ryan would be proud).

--- --- ---

Fancy 'Vigor' Bottles  :

Too bad they (Infinite BS creators) didn't spend more time on the effects of the actual in-game Vigors, instead of all(?) that work on making some pretty looking fantasy bottles (most of which should have a 'KID YOU'LL SHOOT(POKE) YOUR EYE OUT" type warning for their overdone fantasy shapes.

In BS1 and BS2 we got plain bottles and a multitude of Plasmid/Vigor *GAME* action. In Infinite BS it was fancy bottles, and a rather limited and repetitive ...

Seriously we coulda had "Bad Clams - Instant Explosive Intestinal Distress" abilities OR "Your Shoe's Untied" - used to temporarily disadvantage opponents (well the Console Selector Wheel Interfaces can only be so large after all ... AND you know - a $100 million development budget only goes so far ... )

--- --- ---

"ADAM - Freshly Squeezed from Granny's Lifeless Remains !!!"  :

Hmm, thinking about the onerousness of this 'Gathering' activity, that flavor additives MIGHT have been instilled into the Little Sisters extraction device (What would happen when they actually had to taste the body fluids for real when the supplies of those additives ran out ??? Well we saw lots of sodapop and taterchips laying about so I guess something might be arranged.)

"Ooooh, Mr Bubbles, this one tastes like Bubblegum."

"Cotton Candy, Cotton Candy, I love my Cotton Candy ... "

"Strange, this Angel tastes like Ketchup !!!"

"I sooooo luv a Nice Chianti !!!"

"Simon Says : Pop The Angel's Eyeball !!! Ewwwwwwww!!! Ha ha ha haaaah ..."

"Daaadeee, I don't feel good. Take me home."

--- --- ---

Another One of Those Flashbacks - Being One of Sander Cohen's Victims  :

!! With a Mouth Full of Plaster, Noone can Hear you Scream.

Sander Cohen's lastest art 'Installation' (what 'artists' these days call some assembled grouping of elements) (For Sander Cohens 'art', OTHERS might call it a 'Massacre' -- hmmm perhaps THAT is why Cohen was so fond of Booker .... a kindred spirit ???).

"Stop squirming little worm while I *insert* this ... You DON'T want to spoil MY work DO YOU !!!! We CAN do it ANOTHER WAY if you really INSIST !!!"

Lots-O-Creepiness just waiting to be explored ...

--- --- ---

Despite All that has been Said, Elizabeth STILL was Merely a Sidekick as Far as Gameplay Went  :

Allegedly she was supposed to be 'more' (Kennyboy has said so hisself), but this really is only acting out many pre-canned plot scenes, hurling supplies at your face, leading your movement down various one way plot-linear paths, 'taking interest' at staged points along your route, hiding to the side (somewhat) during flying storms of ordinance (she's invulnurable anyway) -- THAT all really is typical 'sidekick' activity, par in games for more than 10 years (just there's more these days in the 'scenes' to latch the scripting onto and this game was largely a 'tour').

There really were NO significant AI advancements in that NPCs independant behavior (claiming there would be 'improvements' is easy, but it IS hard to actually deliver on that promotional jivetalk).

-

Easy to say by me ? Yes. But it takes alot of knowhow and work to make NPCs more realistic (more resources than 2K had for sure). That's the IN for the Player Creation aspect of the MMORPG -- to be able to AMASS the knowhow and effort and finally produce some *significant* improvements - and not just for "Sidekicks" but applied to EVERY NPC (AND Opponent) in the game in a systematic way. So there is a LOOONG way to go because of the difficulties, and having many Players add their Efforts may be the ONLY way it will be achieved.
