Since the INFINITE BS Game is Wave Of The Hand Fantasy, WE might as well have gotten so much more imaginative stuff, no ? They make Jeremiah Fink into some Super-Scientist/Duper_Engineer. So instead of trying to be serious about the Fantasy-like Technology and History, let's have it without all the Explainey yammering pretension[2]
Perhaps Infinite BS would have been a far better game with a "Luddite-Rebellion" type plot ( rejection of technology ), instead of the Faux-Religion, Faux-Economy, Faux-Physics, Faux-History, Faux-Society, Faux-America ignorance and further stupidity the writers had their story setting degenerated into.

Fink's minions saw this in Suchong's Lab through a (convenient) Tear, so wrote notes, took pictures, read blueprints and took pictures of Chalkboards ( and translated the Korean ? ), used long sticks to grab samples and open drawers to take documents, and then Fink built his own. Yeah ... Right. SERIOUSLY -- It CANNOT be that hard to write a BETTER story that THAT for this DLC stuff.

Infinite's DLC - It Just Made It Worse
The Burial At Sea tossed into the Columbia Story that Fink was making ADAM-based genetic "Vigors" ( equivalent of Plasmids ). He NOW would have to obtain the ADAM. The only known source was certain Sea Slugs found at the bottom of the Ocean ( Near Rapture's Site - as far as we know. ) SO HOW to get it ?
I suppose that Fink could think to steal some real submarines like this one which were starting to be built/operated by various World Navies. But THIS one doesn't dive deep at all, and even WW1 (and WW2) Submarines were only capable of going down a few hundred feet before being crushed by the water pressure[3]. Finding and Grabbing the Slugs ? That's a whole different mechanism to make work.
Making a complex machine like a submarine is a whole nuther technology for the 'Wizard of Columbia'[4] to be the master of, I guess ( Add that to the hundreds of other engineering disciplines Fink was claimed to make use of ).
Fink Stealing a Big Daddy to enslave for his 'Slug Harvest' might have been a good sub-plot.

With Fink's Automatons replacing all the 'Cattle' in Columbia, it was a shame to let them go to waste. Therefore he created another new successful product line ( and a much more horrific storyline for the Infinite BS REDO ).
AND Another version of Fink's 'Soylent Green'[5] Machine ( Perfect for an advertising ditty , no ? )
Fink (that ultimate genius) had SO many other Vigors planned ( you know Fink need just snap his fingers to create them - THAT effectively was what HAD to happen in Infinite BS's unrealistic magical Timeline and Economy ).
- The one named "I Shit Gold" was to be reserved for his own personal use.

Those "Vigor" bottles should have looked like this - Not quite so impressive ( but then neither will pieces of glass snap off in your pocket and shred your flesh ). Dispensing those absurdly ornate Vigors ( seen in the game ) from a Vending Machine was another unfortunate disregard of credibility. ( -- Something which would not have been needed if they hadn't slavishly copied the 'vended' 'Upgrade' game element from the earlier games. )
A 1894 Coca Cola Bottle -- "The Pause that Refreshes" ... The cocaine was removed from Coca-Cola in 1903.
Some nice little Pick-Me-Ups there in that kit. So what exactly did Lizzie inject into Booker ???
In the old days, you could count on Tobacco, Coffee and Hard Liquor substance use for people to NOT need to produce a bunch of absurd rubbish ( Infinite BS Vigor bottles ). THIS picture is what real bottles looked like.
When Comstock judged someone didn't "Have Their Head On Straight", he had a way to fix that ...
After Comstock ( in Infinite BS ) aged, the Luteces talked him into doing all kinds of weird things and wearing absurd mechanisms to try reverse the process. Making him look idiotic gave them much hidden glee.
Even before they were murdered ( and became 'gods', immortal, and got bored ), they were having lots of fun doing such twisted things -- and perhaps, it WAS the main reason Comstock eventually had them murdered.

This project was likely at the point where Comstock made the acquaintance of Fink, who supplied the convict labor used to build the foundation for this monstrosity - Fink overcharging for services as he always did. Comstock did not mind so much as he was pocketing huge sums himself from the 'Donations' from the fools who believed in his Prophesy Scam.
The project of course was never finished as Comstock moved on to an even bigger scam - "Columbia" ( taking Fink with him ).

YES IT IS HERE SHOWN that he really is a kind of Vampire - Sucking the Life Blood out of the unfortunates who worked for him.

A more plausible mechanism for 'floating' Columbia - rather than those bad fantasy Pseudo-Physics -- Which even the Fantasy pulp mags gave up in the 1950s.
There coulda been LESS development wasted on the Faux-Stupidity, and MORE effort on making better/decent combat mechanics --- THAT would have been GOOD.

Fink wanted to have Flying Skulls patrol Columbia, but it didn't work out ( the new Aether transmission control flopped ).
BUT they were still useful for the imposing looking mechanical 'heads' ( with helmet ) on the Security Turrets ( And so he could still charge the City the 'bundle of money' wasted on his project ).
Actually more dirigible goodness. But Fink had a different vision of its uses. ( How else would he continuously fly 'convicts' to Columbia to replace the ones that constantly died ??? )

RetroFuturism was hard for the game designers when they appear to only have the typical (recent) public high school understanding of the historic time period. So many things in the game looked like bad kindergarten props because they were plain wrong. The funny thing is : It would have been easier to actually find real things in the decades following the 1893 Exposition and copy them to give a more real feel to the game setting.
After all, isn't that allegedly what Fink was supposed to be doing ( copying good future things ... ) ? ( Or better would be : Columbia stealing those things, and then the game 'artists' wouldn't even NEED to poorly mutate them into their SteamPunk rejects ).
It took a Ford Auto Factory to make Model Ts. Automobile manufacturing sources extended much-much further (across the country). THAT would NOT possibly fit in Columbia, yet the game designers show dozens and dozens of like manufactured things/items/products -- making-believe/pretending it was ALL made in that strange huge Fink Fantasy Factory.
Sorry Levine, size' (giant props) does NOT equal terrain quality. Your Illogical, disproportionate/unrealistic sizing made your claptrap stupidly worse ( and any 'point' you were attempting to make was made absurd ).

Fink was frightened by many things he saw in Tears. Unfortunately, the whole Prophet Scam done by Comstock was fraught with problems when the 'Tears' pointed at far different alternate realities. (( So many Game Writers (and their bosses) can be such simpletons when creating plots for a game. ))

Ryan Would Have An Equivalent Built :
- The Armored Trolley, converted (by New Rapture) for patrols along "Splicer Alley" a 'street' section near the city 'Edge' that was recently opened up, but still has frequent Splicer incursions ( control points are still being established and the many 'holes' out to the "Wild" have not yet been closed up/sealed ).
- Armed with Turrets, Spotlights, Radio-links, a Squadron of Security Flybots and a Battering Ram Plow (in-case of 'obstructions' on the track).
- It can also be deployed at other city locations, if needed to reinforce security operations.
- If Columbia wont have one, then New Rapture will. At least the rails in Rapture wont bend under the weight.
- Eventually when more of the Atlantic Express is working there will probably be a AE Train 'Warwagon' that will fulfil much the same function.

THE Computer in Columbia ( It IS FANTASY, Remember ... ) :
Computer called G. O. D. ( come up with a matching acronym ) or 'J. E. H. O. V. A . H.' (( Columbia had little to do with any real religion, despite the writers attempts to make such linkages. All being a rather bad cliche Cult monstrosity was all they achieved (or dare do). Having a 'computer' driving a Police State is also a cliche. ))
- The "Hallelujah 9000" [8]
- Mechanical whirligigs and blinking lights ( cannot have a computer without lots of blinky lights ).
- Relays were long known ( during WW2 the Germans even made computers with them ).
- Mechanical bits go back before Babbage ( gears and levers and ratchets and cams - can use literally TONS of these ).
- Ticker tape printers and keyboards ( telegraph technology existed ) - Perfect for Player getting game 'messages' not requiring Voice Actors.
- Giant Glass Tubes full of Glowing liquids and Bubbles in them ( It has been done - cheap special effect ).
- Wires to everywhere ( Oops, messes up that game rendering budget )
- Automatic Doors - the very latest 'modern' advancement ( and security doors the 'Computer' controls ).
- Control that Train system ( if it ever was to be AS originally shown )
- Keeping tabs on the citizens ( room with 'situation board' with rotating name plate status indicators )
- "God Was The First Programmer" - Jeremiah Fink - and "The Cattle are merely Data" ( Workers who fall too far behind their tracked quotas are 'ABORTED' - get the 'Blue Screen Door of Death' - a drop 'over the side' of Columbia. )
- We (MMORPG) can have real fun with this stuff ( lotsa Rapture MMORPG Assets can be adapted - just add gears and brass )
- Ran The Security Turrets ( What else could ? - Clockwork inside them ???? )
- Comstock, at the end of the story, has wires going into the back of his head ( So is HE the Machine *OR* is the Machine HIM ??? )
- Booker's Famous line from the REDO game : 'That's Comstock ??? You kind of pity this sick bastard, but all that is left is to "Pull Out The Plug ! "' But the twist is that Booker is then AT THE END shown sitting in a chair with WIRES now out of the back of HIS head !!! (( See how easy it is to come up with these 'profound' plots. ))

Pigeon Guided Missile ( a Real World Idea ) :
Was tried as a technology as an alternative to electronics/computers which were primitive in those days (late 1940s). Pigeon trained to peck at a screen ( an optical window view ) to steer the missile towards a target (terminal guidance).
One of those 'ideas' that Fink thought of but it didn't quite work out ( maybe then sea turtle brain interfaces ??? ) Remember some thing doing real stuff is NOT the same as in a computer game where you simply 'fake it' ( Things in games don't HAVE to actually work, beyond the puppet show it basically is ).

Wanting to Build It - The Early Skyline Development :
There were numerous fatalities before they actually brought in a 'LOW-BID' engineer ( and who was a 'drunk' ) to actually design a system that might work. It did 'work', but not in a particularly efficient manner. No plan seems to have been made to solve the great need for moving Passengers efficiently around Columbia using the system.

Perpetual Motion :
Powering Columbia with a system that uses Two Tears. Water pouring from a large Tear above, dropping 100 feet and entering a second Tear ( actually the same one as the higher Tear ). That falling water then is Turning various large water-wheels/turbines to power all of Columbia. Why not ? At least it is Imaginative. ( BTW - No other source of Columbia's required power is shown in the Game. )
"The Hand of the Prophet" would need its own Portable one of these, no ?

This is an old car dumped into water (A Bugatti). BUT it could be what various Fink experimental submarines ( to get those Sea Slugs ) looked like years later after they sank to the Ocean bottom and never came back up. There was good reason that the Vigors ( RETCON'd as being ADAM-based ) cost more than middle class citizens annual salaries/wages.
Irish submarine pilots were conscripted - When trusted citizens simply would not accept being used on Fink's "Death Dives" ( as they were called after the first dozen missions all proved fatal AND the secret of the dismal failures could NOT be kept ).

Not Quite Dead :
Utilizing the Horrific Idea that all those corpses in Rapture were NOT dead and the ADAM in them regenerated - Hence with repeat visits by Little Sisters to the 'Angels". Fink started stealing corpse from Rapture through Tears - and the Still Conscious 'Undead' unfortunates were subjected to his abuse in his need to acquire ADAM.

Fink's Birth Control Device ?? Used only on Fink's 'cattle' of course.
Actually, this is some kind of Steam Engine device intended for a Record Player mechanism.

But any plans for balloon cities by Fink were not feasible ( and disasters when attempted ).
Alternatives were available for 'floating' of a city in the game (as fantasy), but so much of the game's plot relied on all kinds of 'quantum' magic/tricks as a crutch to facilitate it ( and even more ridiculous things ).
Unfortunately, 'Sciencey' stuff is supposed to have consistency for "the way things work" -- An attribute which simply was NOT followed by the game's developers when they did Whatever the hell they felt like at different times in the story.
This Balloon 'building' (to be honest) really could only be inhabited by Ghosts or Dust Bunnies or Balloon Animals ( or Be in a Splicer's twisted dreams back in Rapture ).

Fink Coulda Had A Telegraph To Another Dimension :
Something Fink Might Use To Hobnob With his Fellow Multi-Finks. It is a Printing Tape (invented 1867), so that communications could be received while Fink was busy herding his Cattle around his Gianourmous Factory and administering his flavor of 'motivation'.
This concept could make for an interesting plot aspect for the INFINITE-BS_REDO.

SO Fink tried his hand at Magic Potions rather than copying that stuff from Suchong ( HE could outdo any Celestial ... )
Fink's Idea was to turn his workers into Automatons - To grow 'Clockwork' Mechanisms in their heads so that they could easily be controlled and always be on time. He tinkered with it for years, but it only resulted in the miserable excruciating deaths of hundreds of his 'Cattle' ( practically he used the most lazy unproductive ones ).
It never worked for its intended goal, but DID work as an Execution Method which became incredibly feared by 'His Cattle'.
